SPORTS UPDATE – Lady Eagles Face Salt Lake Lutheran, USDB, and St. Joe’s

With the end of the quarter and the beginning of a new quarter, I have been swamped. I am way behind on the Girl’s Basketball updates. We have been playing our region schedule over the last couple of weeks. W also played the Utah School of the Deaf and Blind again as well.

For updates on the games against Christian Heritage and Intermountain Christian, visit the blog post recapping those games. You can find it here.

Since those games we have played games against Salt Lake Lutheran, The USDB, and St. Joseph’s High School.

Here is the box score for the Salt Lake Lutheran game.

In the fourth quarter our girls had the best rebounding game that they have had yet. It was fun to watch as they were dominating the boards and keeping St. Joe’s to only on e shot attempt. As you can see we were able to hold them to 2 points in the 4th quarter.

We started off slow against the USDB this time. Our girls were pretty frustrated going into halftime down by a score of 10 – 6. They came back strong in the second half though scoring 34 second half points. The scoring was led by Jessi O. with 18. Michaela B. showed up big with 11 points. The girls were extremely happy with the way they played in the second half, and so were we as coaches.

West Ridge Academy: Structure, Order, and Boundaries Part 1

Girl Sitting On Porch We know that it has been a while, but we are back with another podcast.

So far we have given you an overview of the four essential parenting tasks (podcasts 1-2), connecting with your child (podcasts 4 – 7), and empowering your child (podcasts 8-10). We even discussed a few different parenting styles (podcast 4).

In today’s podcast we jump right into the next essential parenting task, providing structure for your child. This podcast is just an overview of what that means.

Providing structure means helping kids determine values, providing family structure, and recognizing that order and structure help to get the necessary tasks of a family done.

Is it worth stressing out about you child having their room clean? If not, what should we stress about when in comes to providing order for our kids?

We answer these questions, and more,  in this podcast.

As you can see our team was not successfull in bringing home the win. The boys played hard but the baskets didnt want to fall in and the other team pulled ahead for the win. We have had a few of our main players hurt/sick this week and they are trying to get better. We will continue to work hard and practice hard to improve game by game. The team and coaching staff will continue to fight and show everyone that we are the team to beat and that we can do great things.
Â
Thanks to all that supported the team in collecting shoes/donations for the Haiti children. We will continue to do this on Friday and next Wednesdays game. The coaches will coach one last time on Fridays game just like they did in tonights game… Barefooted to support the program in collcting these donations.
Â
Our next game is at home on Friday against Sat Lake Lutheran @ 5:30 and 7:00
Â
See you then!

SPORTS UPDATE – Lady Eagles Show Improvement, But Fall To CHS and ICS

Sarro Playing D. When does losing 46 – 10 almost feel like a victory. When the team you are playing is on pace to score 80 points. That is what happened last Thursday night as we traveled to play Christian Heritage High School. They are a very good basketball team. We have been working hard on our defense and partway through the first half  the CHS Crusaders were on pace to score 80. We challenged our girls to play better defense and they responded. Especially in the second half.  In the first half the crusaders scored 29 points. In the second half they scored 17. Our offense was pretty stagnant, only scoring ten points.  The game did end on a high note however. With time running out, Stephanie S. took a shot from beyond the 3-point line. The shot went in without hitting any rim!

Scorers for West Ridge:

Stephanie S.    7
Alexa L.    3

Tuesday night we played another Region powerhouse in Intermountain Christian Academy. I do not have the JV book infront of me as I write this, so I can’t give an update of the JV game. What I can say about the game however, is that the coaches agreed that it was the best game they played this season. The did a fantastic job of taking care of the ball and being patient on offense. They played excellent defense as well.

Our defense started out great in the Varsity game. ICS is a fast team, and our girls played very good man to man defense in the first half. We were proud to see and hear our girls recognizing when screens were coming, calling for switches, and rotating to help each other when needed. Unfortunately, our offense was less than stellar as we were only able to mange 2 points by half time. Even thought we did not score many points, our girls were able to take care of the ball much better. Halftime score 17 – 2.

In the second half we switched to a zone defense and to ICS’s credit, they were able to hit quite a few jump shots from the open zones. Offensively we did better in the second half. Cami Driggs had 4 points in the second half, all on second chance points. That means that she was big inside getting rebounds. Final score 43 – 13.

SPORTS UPDATE – West Ridge Boys Go International

On Friday our basketball team played against Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant Utah approximately 2 hours away from West Ridge. The reason that this email is named West Ridge goes international is because Wastach’s team only has 2 players that are from the United States and the rest of the students are from another country.

JV GAME:

West Ridge   Quarter 1: 9             Quarter 2: 16           Quarter 3: 21            Quarter4: 38
Wasatch        Quarter 1: 5             Quarter 2: 16           Quarter 3: 27           Quarter 4: 36

As you can see in the scores above the game was very close until the end. Our boys played their hearts out the whole entire game and never gave up.

Points for each player:

Tyler B ~ 11
Jack K ~ 6
Levi W ~ 5
Mike H ~ 11
Dallin H ~ 5

Other players in the game were Joe A., Gavin C. and Daniel R. These players played great defense and hustled the whole game up and down the court.

The highlight of the JV game was at the very end of the game. Both teams were tied with 1 second left on the clock. West Ridge had the ball underneath Wasatch Academy’s basket. After a timeout was called by West Ridge our boys got ready to set up for the play… The ball was thrown hard down to the other end of the court to Mike H., he turned and shot the basket before the buzzer went off. SWOOSH… The basket was good and West Ridge won 38 to 36. The team ran onto the court jumping up and down with excitement along with the fans supporting West Ridge going crazy on the sidelines. It was so fun to watch Mike and also watch the team congratulate him on an awesome basket. GREAT JOB MIKE!!!

VARSITY GAME:

West Ridge               Quarter 1: 17           Quarter 2: 30           Quarter 3: 37            Quarter4: 58
Wasatch                    Quarter 1: 19           Quarter 2: 30           Quarter 3: 59            Quarter 4: 70

Our Varsity team was pumped up after watching the JV Game and was ready to show the other team what they had to offer.  Our boys came out and played hard and never stopped pressing the other team and making them work hard for their win.

Points for each Player:

Austin O ~ 6
Jack K ~ 5
Jess M ~ 5
Regan S ~ 16
Will G ~ 24
Levi W ~ 2

Dallin H also played in the game and played great defense.

The positive things that happened in the varsity game: Our boys really played their hearts out with the tough crowd that you find at Wasatch Academy. Their crowd is extremely loud and into the game the whole entire time and our boys did not let this distraction change the way that they played. Also if you look at the score by quarter above you will see that at half time we were tied at 30. We had a rough 3 minutes to start out the second quarter and if we were to not struggle at that time in the game we possibly could have brought home the win. GREAT GAME BOYS!!!!
I am extremely proud of our boys and the way they played and held themselves in the game. Going into this game we knew that it was going to be tough due to the crowd and the team that Wasatch has this year but our boys really did not give up and played hard until the end.

Thanks for all of your support!

Our next game is against Mt. Vernon on Wednesday January 20th. The game is not being held at the high school so as soon as I find out the address I will let you all know where it is going to be.

Lady Eagles Get First Win Of The Season

Last night the Lady Eagles picked up their first victory of the season. We played against the Utah School of the Deaf and Blind. This was a fun game to watch. There were 10 different players who scored. Jaime G., Madi A., and Amanda H. scored their first points of the season.

We are proud of how hard our girls have worked over the last couple of weeks. We have been working on defense a lot in practice. The practice showed, as we were able to hold them to only 4 points in the first half.

Our scoring was very balanced offensively. Ellice A. was our leading scorer with seven points. Three players scored four points each and five more scored 2. Personally my favorite play was watching Madi A. drive in from the wing and pass to a streaking Amanda H. for a layup.

Scorers:
Stephanie S. 2
Destiny S.  4
Alexa L.  2
Jessi O.  4
Madi A.  1
Rachel C.  2
Cami D.  2
J’aime G.  2
Ellice A.  7
Amanda H. 4
