SPORTS UPDATE – Boys Drop A Game To Mt. Vernon

The boys fought really hard tonight but lost 2-1 in the end.  We dominated the first half with about 10 shots that the goalie either saved or that we shot a little bit wide.  Our goalie, David K., only touched the ball three times the whole half.  The first half ended up being tied 0-0 at the end of the first half.  The second half started out strong scoring on the kick-off.  Mount Vernon did not give up and scored two quick goals in a ten minute period to take the lead at 2-1.  Our boys never stopped fighting and kept on shooting on their goalie which dropped some of the shots but we could not get our feet on the loose balls and put them in the net.  It was disappointing to lose but their effort was good, especially with some of them playing in positions that they were not used to playing.

SPORTS UPDATE – Lady Eagles Lose In A Blizzard

Wasatch Soccer Game SmallLast monday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Mt. Pleasant, UT. As you can see from the pictures, the conditions were heinous for playing soccer. The final score was 3 – 0 in favor of Wasatch Academy. The game was shortened because fo the weather. After playing for a few minutes, the official called a break in the action, due to the weather. The score at that time was 0 – 0. Our girls had done a great job of keeping the ball on the Wasatch side of the field, even though the snow wa bowing right in their faces! After the break we switched sides. Wasatch scored two goals on penalty kicks and one other goal. Our girls could not get the ball into the goal. We were wet and tired all the way home.

Our next game will be at ICS Tuesday the 13th at 5:00 P.M.

SCHOOL UPDATE – Girl’s Opening Performance of Civil War Play, A Smashing Success

Cast picture smallNine weeks ago the girls at West Ridge Academy were assigned the project of writing a play about the Civil War. The History and English classes were combined together as the girls studied the histroy of the Civil War and the structure of playwriting. Yesterday morning excitement and nervousness filled the air as the girls began the first performance of the play.

The instructors of the girls wanted to meet three major objectives with the play.

1. Have an authentic audience.

2. Provide a service to the community

3. Invite professionals in the community to help us.

Residents from the Wentworth Assisted Living  Home and students from Ability and Choices Services came, meeting the first two requirements. The girls, in costume, met our guests at the fron door of the school and escorted them to their seats. The mood was set by Cami D. playing Civil War music on her violin. The girls did a fantastic job performing. There was a slideshow tribute to our men and women who are currently serving in the armed forces. A few of our guests were visibly moved.

Sonja Nelson was our professional help for the play. She has excelled in her career of creating costumes for theater and in film. She has worked on movies such as High School Musical 3 and Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration.  Her help was so valuable to our production. She helped the girls create the costumes for the project. They were spectacular! We want to give a huge thank you to her for all the time that she donated to make our play a huge success.
