Region 17 Champs

Fighting
Eagle Fans…

I would like to announce that our 2011-2012 West Ridge Academy Baseball Team are the-

REGION 17 CHAMPIONS

Tonight we played Mount Vernon and at the end of the 5 innings the score was 24 to 0.
Our boys came out to play and support David W. at the mound as he threw a 1
hitter game after 5 innings.

Will S. had 2 home runs in the game along with Zach O. with a homerun in the 2nd
inning. This has been a challenging year for the team but after sticking
together we won our 4th Region title at West Ridge. The team did celebrate at
the end of the game but then made the statement that they are ready to go and
fight to bring home a state title. We will continue to work hard as a team and
coaching staff and try our best to make this happen.

Friday we play ICS at home at 4:00 and then Saturday in Tabiona at the High School at
1:00 (10 N Main Street Tabiona, UT). Our last Non Region game is on Wednesday
September 28th against Tintic (525 East Main Street in Eureka UT) at
3:00. Then off to the playoffs in Spanish Fork on
October 4th at 2:30. We would love to have as much support as we
possibly can during the playoffs. It is a single elimination so as long as our
boys continue to play hard we will do just fine.

Thanks for all of your support,

Jamie

Devotional 9/18- Stacey Bess- Hallmark movie “Beyond the Blackboard”

Beyond the Blackboard - Treat Williams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 8, 2011) — When Stacey Bess gets her first teaching job, it’s not at all what she expected. She’s assigned to the School with No Name in Salt Lake City, a space in a homeless shelter that is supposed to function as a classroom. The “classroom,” though, lacks basic supplies such as desks and books, and her young students range in age from six to 12.

Based on a true story, Beyond the Blackboard portrays young Stacey confronting her own fears and insecurities as she struggles to gain attention and respect from her students. She must also win over school board administrators and apprehensive parents.

Beyond the Blackboard, the 243rd presentation of the Hallmark Hall of Fame, premieres Sunday, April 24, 2011, 9-11 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. This presentation continues the 60th anniversary year of television’s longest-running and most-honored series of drama specials.

“It’s so rare that you read a script and connect with it on such a deep level,” she says. “I have such a tremendous amount of admiration for Stacey and for the things she’s done that to be able to portray her is really an honor.

“I love the combination she has of vulnerability and empathy, matched with tremendous strength.”

Stacey Bess spent many days on the Albuquerque, New Mexico set of Beyond the Blackboard, and memories came flooding back.

“The chances of my surviving at the beginning were just about nil,” she remembers. “I mean, I’d never been exposed to poverty.”

Stacey Bess persevered, and for 11 years brought help and hope to her flock of school children.

“I had to convince them that I was an adult who could be trusted, an adult who was here today for them, and would be here tomorrow for them, and the day after tomorrow.

“I had to teach them to be children. They had to learn that it wasn’t their job to worry about money. Their job was to go to school, and to help their brothers and sisters.”

Treat Williams, also interviewed on the film’s set, says Beyond the Blackboard “reminds us that sometimes it doesn’t take an awful lot to make a huge difference in other people’s lives. In this case, some desks, some books, some focus – and a lot of love – and these kids’ lives were improved immeasurably.”

Stacey Bess says the take-away message of her story and Beyond the Blackboard is:  “Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to offer help to someone you don’t know, or don’t know well.

“Even the smallest gesture can make the biggest difference in another person’s life.”

Baseball- Wendover

Fighting
Eagle Fans…

Tonights game was another fine outing for the Eagles. The Fighting Eagles beat the
Wendover Wildcats 13 to 0. Tonights game was better competition and we saw
better pitching that helped our boys get better and improve their skills.

Will S. pitched a no hitter and was so close to a perfect game. There was great
defense by Brady P. and Ridge N. along with the rest of the team. Chandler C
had a great night at the plate. He went 3 for 3 and had 2 doubles. David W went
2 for 3 and scored both times. Sam O went 2 for 3 as well and scored both times
on base.

Our next game is on Wednesday at home vs St Joes at 4:00

We also have a game on Saturday @ home @ 2:00 vs Tabiona. Please have your boys to
campus at noon if they are on weekends.

Thanks for all of your support!
